Residence in Voula 01

The site was selected with the aim of accommodating a house that would be used for both a permanent residence and vacations.

The spaces were arranged on three levels forming an L-shaped plan, thus creating an open space on the ground floor, which is protected from the wind and opens onto the south.

The entrance, an extension to the garden, is on the basement level. The living-room, the sitting room with the fireplace, the dining room, the guests’ WC and two open staircases leading from the entrance to the upper floor constitute one of the two spatial units on the ground floor. The second spatial unit consists of the kitchen, which includes a working space and a breakfast corner.

The upper floor has been designed in two separate units as well. One of them contains the master bedroom, vestibule, bathroom and the linen closet and is located at some distance from the children’s bedrooms and bathroom, which constitute the second spatial unit. These rooms look onto a closed patio. The study and the guest room are placed around the central rectangular void over the sitting room on the ground floor.

This project was published in the architectural magazine Design + Art in Greece (issue 18, 1987) and mentioned in the book Reflections on Greek Postwar Architecture by Panos Tsakopoulos (published 2014).
